Mets Trade Adams to Athletics for Cash
Adams Activated by Oakland
Versatile Pitcher Adds Depth to A's Bullpen
The New York Mets and Oakland Athletics have completed a trade that sends right-handed pitcher Austin Adams to Oakland for cash considerations. Adams, 31, was designated for assignment by the Mets on Sunday after posting a 5.33 ERA in 16 appearances this season.
Adams has played for five teams during his MLB career, including the Washington Nationals, Seattle Mariners, San Diego Padres, and Arizona Diamondbacks. He has a career ERA of 4.72 in 298 appearances, primarily as a relief pitcher.
The Athletics activated Adams from the 60-day injured list to take his spot on the active roster. He had been sidelined since early May with a shoulder injury.
Adams provides the A's with a versatile arm who can pitch in multiple roles. He has experience both as a starter and reliever, and he can eat innings when needed.
The Mets, meanwhile, clear a spot on their roster for another pitcher while adding some much-needed cash to their coffers. The team is currently in last place in the NL East and has been actively trying to shed salary.
