A Mission to Serve
Born in 1958, Kaine has always been driven by a desire to help others. After graduating from law school, he returned to his hometown of Richmond to practice civil rights law. He represented individuals and groups who had been discriminated against, and he fought for justice and equality.
Kaine's commitment to service extended beyond his law practice. He volunteered his time to help the homeless, the elderly, and other marginalized communities. He also served on the Richmond City Council for six years, where he worked to improve the lives of all residents.
Rising to the Senate
In 2005, Kaine was elected Lieutenant Governor of Virginia. He served in that role until 2010, when he was elected to the United States Senate. In the Senate, Kaine has continued to champion the causes he believes in, including civil rights, education, and economic opportunity.
