Michigan Cb Will Johnson Returns To Practice Following Injury Scare

Michigan CB Will Johnson returns to practice following injury scare

Johnson injured his ankle in the first quarter of Michigan's win over Maryland

Michigan cornerback Will Johnson left last weeks game against Maryland with an ankle injury, but the sophomore is back at practice this week and could play against Rutgers on Saturday.

Johnson is one of the Wolverines' top defensive backs, and his return would be a big boost for a team that is already dealing with injuries in the secondary.

Injury update

Johnson suffered the injury in the first quarter of Michigan's 34-3 win over Maryland. The sophomore cornerback came down awkwardly after making a tackle, and he was helped off the field by trainers.

Johnson did not return to the game, but he was able to walk out of the stadium under his own power.

On Monday Johnson participated in non-contact drills, and he was a full participant in practice Tuesday.

Moore said that Johnson, who missed Wisconsin game against Illinois with a leg injury, is "doing well" and that he is "day-to-day" in terms of his availability for Saturday's game against Rutgers.

"He's a tough kid," Moore said. "He's working hard to get back, and we're hopeful that he'll be able to play on Saturday."

Impact on the team if Johnson can't play

If Johnson is unable to play against Rutgers, it would be a big loss for the Michigan defense.

Johnson has started all seven games for the Wolverines this season, and he has been one of their most consistent players.

In seven games, Johnson has recorded 24 tackles, two interceptions, and three pass breakups.
